The city of La Center is taking applications to fill a vacancy on the city council after Kristine Carmona stepped down last week.
With more than three years left on her term, Carmona turned in a letter of resignation Wednesday announcing she would leave the council immediately. Carmona’s replacement will take over the first portion of her term, through the end of 2015.
In November 2015, the city will hold an election for someone to fill the last two years of Carmona’s term. Candidates must be U.S. citizens with at least one year of residency in La Center.
The city will accept applications until 5 p.m. May 30. After the deadline, the council will review the applications and conduct interviews before selecting a new councilor June 11.
Anyone interested in applying should send a letter and a statement of qualifications to City Hall, 214 E. Fourth St.
