Prep roundup: Hudson’s Bay holds off River, 5-4

A five-run first inning held up for the Hudson’s Bay baseball team as defeated Columbia River 5-4 on Saturday.

It was Columbia River’s second league loss, and just the second league win for Bay.

Both pitchers went the distance.

Bay’s Tyler Lee had three strikeouts and no walks, while River’s Jace McKinney struck out eight with no walks in holding Bay to two hits.

River scored all its runs in the fifth inning. Jace McKinney, Blake McKinney and Brady Benson had RBI hits.

Caleb Grahnert had an RBI for Bay.

Stars of the day

• Alec Chaney and Brian Valentine, Skyview baseball. Both players went 2 for 4 with a double and home run. Chaney drove in three, and Valentine had two RBI in the 8-2 win over Heritage.

• Mitch Lines, Hockinson baseball, was 2 for 3 with a double, triple and five RBI in the Hawks’ 12-8 win at Mark Morris.

• Lucas Colton, Woodland baseball, struck out 10 batters in holding Ridgefield to two hits and also drove in two runs in the Beavers’ 4-0 victory.
