An open house about the city’s plan to improve safety and address congestion on Southeast Mill Plain Boulevard, between 104th Avenue and Chkalov Drive, will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cascade Inn, 11613 S.E. Seventh St.
The busy half-mile-long section of Mill Plain at Interstate 205 experiences the highest daily traffic volumes in Vancouver, said Loretta Callahan, spokeswoman for the city’s public works department.
The project includes modifications to Mill Plain at the I-205 southbound ramp with the closure of Southeast 107th Avenue’s connection to Mill Plain, realignment and extension of Southeast 104th Avenue, extension of the left-turn lane for eastbound traffic accessing northbound I-205, signal upgrades, street lights and sidewalk ADA-compliant ramps. Potential changes to transit stops there are also being evaluated.
The project will be paid for by $4.2 million in federal grants with $395,000 in local matching funds, Callahan said.
