BINGEN — Rowland Lake was the top producer — by a wide margin — in the Columbia Gorge on Saturday’s fishing season opener.
The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife sampled 71 anglers at the lake east of here with 200 fish kept and another 314 released. Those are averages of 7.2 fish caught and 2.8 kept.
About 20 percent of the catch were large triploid trout or brood stock rainbows.
At Spearfish Lake near The Dalles Dam, the numbers were 36 rods with 86 trout kept and 43 released. Eight triploid trout and one brood stock was sampled.
At Horsethief Lake inside Columbia Hills State Park, the state checked 51 anglers with 100 fish kept and 20 released. The catch included 10 bass and a walleye.
