Sam Niedner score two goals as Columbia River handed Mountain View its first league loss of the season as the Chieftains won 2-1 in a Class 3A Greater St. Helens League boys soccer game.
Mountain View, who got a goal from Michael Beauchamp, still leads the 3A GSHL with a 5-1-0 record, ahead of River at 4-1-1.

• Ethan Beniga and Cody Hawken, Union baseball. Leadoff hitter Beniga was 5 for 5 with a triple and six RBI, and Hawken was 3 for 4 with a double, home run and four RBI in a 19-4 win over Evergreen.
• Alex Torson, Mountain View baseball, struck out six batters in a five-inning, two-hit 12-2 win over Hudson’s Bay. He was also 2 for 2 at the plate with two doubles and three RBI.
• Marco Martinez, Heritage boys soccer, had a goal and an assist as the Timberswolves beat Battle Ground 4-0 for their first 4A GSHL win in more than three years.
• Bobbi Bertsch, Skyview softball, was 4 for 5 with a home run and four RBI in the Storm’s 4A GSHL opening 16-4 win over Evergreen.
• Taylor Ellensohn, Hockinson baseball, was 6 for 8 in the doubleheader sweep of Washougal.
• Teaghan Cowles, Columbia River softball, went 5 for 5 with two home runs and a triple.
• Katie Schroeder, Camas softball, struck out 12 in a win over rival Union and also had three hits, including two doubles, and drove in two runs.
• Sam Rice, Ridgefield softball, was 3 for 3 with a double, two home runs and four RBI in the Spudders’ 11-1 win at Mark Morris.
• Sterling Ransom, Union soccer, scored the only goal of the match in a victory over Evergreen.
• Marcus Gaylor, Columbia River boys track and field, won the 100 meters and 200 meters in leading River to a second-place finish at the Elden Keller Invitational in Hillsboro, Ore.
• Emily Morgan and Ellie Walker, Columbia River girls track and field, both posted to wins. Morgan won the 100 and 200 and Walker won the 300-meter hurdles and high jump to help the Chieftains win the Elden Keller Invitaitonal in Hillsboro.
