La Center Councilor Carmona resigns

Councilor Kristine Carmona submitted a letter of resignation to the city of La Center on Wednesday. Her resignation is effective immediately.

In the letter, she said her time with the city was well spent but that she decided to step down because she wanted to contribute to the community in other ways.

Suzanne Levis, the city’s finance director, said Carmona plans to spend more time with her family.

Carmona joined the council in 2011, filling a vacancy after Bill Birdwell left to take a job with the city. She beat out four opponents for the position that year.

Carmona’s current term was set to expire in 2017.

The remaining four councilors can appoint a temporary replacement in the next 90 days. If they don’t act, the duty will fall to the Clark County commissioners.

That appointee will serve until the city holds an election in November 2015 for the last two years of Carmona’s term.
