Southbound traffic on Interstate 5 was temporarily halted Thursday afternoon while police approached the occupants of a vehicle reported stolen.

A Clark County Sheriff’s deputy conducted a traffic stop just before 4:30 p.m. on the freeway near 99th Street and found out through a 911 dispatcher that the vehicle had been reported stolen, according to Sgt. Duncan Hoss.

The deputy initiated a high-risk traffic stop near 99th Street and called in backup, Hoss said. Motorists saw police approach the vehicle with guns drawn.

A woman was arrested and booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle. Her passenger was detained and released.

Traffic on the freeway was impeded for less than 10 minutes, Hoss said.
