Northwest — The Northwest Neighborhood Association will celebrate its 30th anniversary during its regular meeting, scheduled for 7 p.m. on April 24 at Franklin Elementary School, 5206 N.W. Franklin St.

A statement from the aptly named neighborhood association, which forms the northwestern corner of the Vancouver city limits, trumpets its advantages: It’s “characterized by well-kept, older single-family homes” and “has a very balanced population of young families, middle-aged people and retirees.”

With great views of Vancouver Lake, a large public park (Franklin), lots of mature greenery and the westernmost leg of the Burnt Bridge Creek Trail, neighbors like to say Northwest has a “country in the city” feeling.
