Be the Match potential donor event set
On Thursday, potential bone marrow donors will have the opportunity to register at Camas Fire Department Station 42, 4321 N.W. Parker St.
The event is being organized by Camas High School senior Zane Sharif as part of his senior project.
Every four minutes, someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer such as leukemia. For many of these patients, their only chance at a cure is a life saving bone marrow transplant.
Be the Match, the largest, most diverse registry of potential marrow donors and cord blood units in the world, provides potential matching bone marrow donors.
Sharif hopes to add 100 new people to the registry at his event. Those between the ages of 18 and 44 are eligible. Potential donors will have their eligibility tested via a saliva swab. Joining the registry is non-binding, and no one is obligated to donate.
