Weather Eye: April showers will keep things wet, cool remainder of the week

Looking at all the weather charts Monday afternoon I can’t see one day the rest of the week and into the weekend where there is a dry day wedged in somewhere. Either it is steady rain or showers. Our deficit for April may turn into abundance!

We at least enjoyed most of Monday, as I mentioned here Sunday, as a dry day for a good share of it and warm afternoon temperatures. The incoming weather systems promise to bring bouts of cold air aloft with snow down to the passes, maybe lower. That translates into cooler highs here, mostly in the 50s. A good sun break could push us up to 60 but we will leave that out of the forecast.

Sunday was nice and dry after the rain on Saturday. I had a few folks questioning my forecast Saturday of a dry Easter. I pulled one out of my hat!

OK, traveling over the mountain passes this week? As I mentioned, snow possible at times today through Wednesday, maybe down to 3,000 feet. I don’t expect serious problems, but 1-3 inches could fall. The south Washington Cascade passes would receive more, maybe 1-5 inches.

Make it through this week and maybe, just maybe, we warm up into the 70s next week for a few days, as high pressure and warmer air aloft is seen on the extended computer models. Let’s hope so.

As I close my writing around 5 p.m. Monday I see the gentle raindrops have begun falling upon the ground. Wild ducks are bathing in the retention pond and frogs are of course still singing their annual spring serenade. All is right in the world it seems.
