Vancouver-based Pac Paper Inc., a family-owned paper products company best known for its Java Jacket sleeves for coffee cups, has been acquired by Packaging Dynamics Corp., a company owned by the Kohlberg & Company private investment firm.

The acquisition was announced in a news release by Chicago-based Packaging Dynamics. Company officials at Pac Paper did not return calls requesting comment.

Pac Paper, with about 100 employees, manufactures and sells specialty paper packaging products primarily for food service, food processing, agricultural and industrial applications.

“Pac Paper provides a unique opportunity for growth in the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada along with leading positions in key products and end-markets,” said Roger Prevot, chief executive officer of Packaging Dynamics, in a news release.

He added: “We look forward to using these expanded offerings and capabilities to better meet the needs of customers across our entire flexible packaging business. We are pleased to welcome the management and employees of Pac Paper to our company.”

David Morgan, Pac Paper’s vice president of sales and marketing, also issued a statement.

“After nearly four decades of growing and developing the Pac Paper business in support of our outstanding customers, the shareholders of Pac Paper have decided to partner with the industry leader in paper-based flexible packaging for the next phase of the business’ growth,” he said.

Robert McNally, Pac Paper’s CEO and president, said the ownership change will allow the company to expand the market penetration of its product line, including the Java Jacket.
