Weather Eye: Sunshine, warm afternoon expected to close out weekend

Saturday afternoon around 3:30 the skies got dark as a brief, heavy rain shower moved through Salmon Creek. I was watching the rain on my deck and torrents running off rooftops. I bet even the frogs ran for cover on that one, but at least it washed the spiders out of the downspout.

Then the sun came out. And so it goes with April, the month of sometimes intense shower activity. The main cold front Saturday morning brought little in the way of rain, generally a tenth of an inch or less here in the city and suburbs. It was those April showers that doubled or tripled that amount. But that was Saturday. Today, Easter Sunday promises sunshine and warm afternoon temperatures for the family gatherings. I wish I could take all the credit for the break in the weather pattern today.Looking ahead for the week, we see more April showers and cooler afternoons. The nights will not be as cold as Friday and Saturday, when they were in the 30s. I didn’t experience any frost, but I had a couple of reports in the far outlying areas of scattered frost on the rooftops Friday morning. My coldest here in Salmon Creek was 34 degrees Friday, plenty enough to see my breath out the door.Happy Easter!
