The Clark County Warriors Red high school rugby club registered another impressive win on Saturday, defeating Linn-Benton 50-7.
The Warriors Red team and Eastside of Portland are each 5-0 atop the Rugby Oregon High School Club Championship Division. This week, those teams clash at 1 p.m. Saturday at Skyridge Middle School in Camas.
Luc Levasseur led the dominant win over Linn-Benton with three five-point tries. Justin Straup scored two tires, and Jessie Keisser contributed two tries and two conversion kicks. Also scoring a try for the Red Warriors were Taj Albeck and Izaak Heredia, who also kicked three conversions.
Clark County Rugby’s second team, the Warriors Black, lost 50-14 to the Valley Rams of McMinnville, Ore. Ryan Gingrich and Jakob Saulo scored for the Black, who host Columbia County (Ore.) at 11:30 a.m. this Saturday at Skyridge Middle School.
Union 25, Prairie 7 — In the Rugby Oregon Varsity Premiership Division, the first-year Union team topped Prairie on Saturday. Caleb Browning scored two tries, and Jake Kim and Brendon Curle one apiece as Union’s back-line players provided the offense. Tyler Dionne added a long-range penalty kick for three points.
Union (4-1) is tied with Reynolds of Troutdale, Ore., for first place in the division. Prairie is one of three teams tied at 2-2-1.
This week, Union plays third-place Oregon City at 2 p.m. Saturday at Delta Park in North Portland. Prairie takes on Central Catholic at 12:30 p.m. at Laurin Middle School.
Battle Ground 22, Central Catholic 22 — Battle Ground played to a draw on Saturday, and has two wins, one loss and two ties. Details were not reported. This week, Battle Ground hosts Lakeridge of Lake Oswego at 11 a.m. Saturday at Laurin Middle School.
Battle Ground girls 35, West Linn 0 — Host Battle Ground improved to 2-2-1 in the Oregon Rugby High School Girls Division by blanking West Linn on Saturday. No details were reported. Battle Ground will plat Columbia County (4-1) at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Scappoose (Ore.) Middle School.
King’s Way lacrosse splits 2 games
Evan Ramirez scored four goals and had one assist on Thursday, helping King’s Way Christian to a 13-3 win over Richland in a Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association game.
Mikey Johnson and Nathan Swift each added three goals. Brian Prigmore, Josh Eisemann and Nathan Pratt also scored goals.
On Wednesday, King’s Way lost to Clackamas, Ore., 20-7 in a non-league game. Johnson and Prigmore each scored two goals and had an assist for the Knights.
Today, King’s Way plays Union in a league match at 5:30 p.m. at Shahala Middle School. On Friday, Union visits Richland and Camas plays at Southridge of Kennewick. Camas visits Richland on Saturday.
In girls action, the Evergreen Lacrosse Club plays three games at McKenzie Stadium over the next week, hosting Bellarmine Prep today, Bethel on Thursday and Tahoma on April 22. Each game starts at 6 p.m.
Vancouver driver wins at Woodburn
Devon Hilton of Vancouver won the King of the Hill race Sunday during the 38th Northwest Drag Race Association Classic on Sunday at Woodburn Dragstrip in Woodburn, Ore.
Hilton defeated Paul Nero of Eugene in the King of the Hill race when Nero fouled. Earlier, Nero edged Hilton in the Super Pro final race by almost perfectly hitting his dial time. The King of the Hill involved all winners and runners up from the day’s elimination races.
Cody Cumpton of Vancouver was the runner-up in the motorcycle division. In the Sportsman division, Robert Glafka of Battle Ground reached the semifinals.
Victory FC wins preseason match
Borce Atanasov scored three goals Saturday as Vancouver Victory FC kicked off its preseason with a 4-2 win over Everett United FC in Seattle.
Mirza Ramic added a goal and one assist, and Alberto Casa had two assists for Vancouver.
Victory FC is a member of the Evergreen Premier League, a new eight-team men’s soccer league for current college and older players.
The Victory will take on Warner Pacific College at 6 p.m. April 19 at King’s Way Christian School in a second preseason contest. They open league play on April 27 at Bellingham and play their first home match at 2 p.m. on May 4 at McKenzie Stadium.
Admission to Saturday’s match against Warner Pacific costs $2. Victory season ticket holders will be admitted for free. There is no seating at the field, but spectators can bring their own chairs.
Football team opens with a win
The Clark County Vipers amateur football team beat the Puget Sound Outlaws 19-7 on Saturday in a non-league game to kick off their 2014 season at McKenzie Stadium.
David Saylors rushed for 94 yards and two touchdowns for the Vipers in front a crowd the Vipers estimated at close to 300 fans.
The first touchdown was scored when JR Williams recovered a blocked punt in the end zone. Mike North blocked the punt.
The Vipers open Pacific Football League play on Saturday against the South Lane Buzzards at Cottage Grove High School.
