Clam digging resumes Tuesday at Long Beach

LONG BEACH — Long Beach Peninsula will be open for razor clam digging for six consecutive days beginning Tuesday.

Low tides for the dates are: Tuesday, -0.3 feet, 7:24 a.m.; Wednesday, -0.6 feet, 8:03 a.m.; April 17, -0.8 feet, 8:43 a.m.; April 19, -0.8 feet, 9:26 a.m.; April 19, -0.7 feet, 10:14 a.m., and April 20, -0.4 feet, 11:06 a.m.

The second annual Long Beach Razor Clam Festival is April 19 and 20.

Once this series of digs is over, state shellfish managers will analyze harvest data and propose additional digging dates in the weeks ahead, said Dan Ayres, coastal shellfish manager for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

“This year’s season is near the end, but we’re not there yet,” he said. “We hope to offer more digging days into May.”

The daily bag limit is the first 15 clams dug, regardless of size or condition. Each digger’s clams must be in a separate container.

With the arrival of April, diggers need a 2014-15 license. Washington’s recreational licenses are on an April-through-March cycle.

An annual razor clam license for a Washington resident costs $13. A three-day license is $8.60.
