Riveridge: The Vancouver Elks Lodge 823 honored volunteers last month during its annual awards night, including a lifetime achievement honor given to Ray Jara for his commitment to the group. Jara and Karen Nickel were also presented Outstanding Service Commendations from the national Elks organization. Exalted Ruler Lorna Smailum presented the awards during the ceremony.
Honors were given to:
o Elk of the Year: Ralph Erickson.
o Officer of the Year: Dave Mersereau.
o Citizen of the Year: Kathy Laurent.
o Special Citation For Making a Difference: Ken Dalton.
The Vancouver lodge has been active for 112 years.
