Book cover design contest open

Think you have what it takes to design an award-winning book of Oregon historical fiction? Enter the Oregon Historical Society, The Oregon Encyclopedia and Ooligan Press Book cover design contest.

The contest is open to all Oregon and southwest Washington middle and high school students. To enter, students must send a high-resolution PDF of their book cover to bookcover@ohs.org. A book title and description of 75 words or fewer must accompany the design, and should describe the imagined story and its link to Oregon history.

Students must include their name, contact information, school and grade level in their email submission. The deadline is May 31.

The grand prize winner will receive $150, second place will receive $100, and third place will receive $50.

Contest winners will be announced at the Oregon Historical Society’s Summer Community Day Saturday, June 21. Community Day is a quarterly free day that features programs and activities for the whole family.

Safeway gives $7,000 to Gause through eScrip program

The Gause Elementary Boosters received more then $7,000 in 2013 through Safeway eScrip funding.

Funds are used to support a variety of programs such as Family Fitness Night, music, Safety Patrol and Green Team activities.
