Wildlife Commission to consider elk hunting reductions
OLYMPIA — The state Fish and Wildlife Commission will consider decreasing elk hunting permits by more than 400 in the Mount St. Helens area when it meets April 11.
The nine-member commission will convene at 8:30 a.m. April 11 and 12 in room No. 172 of the Natural Resources Building, 1111 Washington St. S.E.
Members also will consider reducing fees for multi-season deer permit holders, master hunters with special permits for deer or elk damage, special permit holders who purchase a second deer tag and hunters who are issued damage prevention or kill permits for second deer tags.
Klineline Pond to close for youth derby
Klineline Pond at Salmon Creek Park will be closed to public fishing on April 10 through 12 during the annual youth fishing event.
More than 2,500 young anglers are registered for the Kids Fish-In on April 11 and 12. Several thousand trout will be stocked into netted areas along the shore on April 10.
Klineline Pond will stay closed on April 12 after conclusion of the Fish-In while several hundred feet of nets are pulled from the shore.
CCA seeks items for fund raiser
Donations are being sought by the Coastal Conservation Association to raffle and auction at their Southwest Washington chapter banquet on April 24 at the Heathman Lodge, 7801 N.E. Greenwood Drive.
The seventh annual event is sold out. Money raised at the event stays in Washington. To donate to the banquet, call 694-4300.
Mount Adams cycling tour on June 28
TROUT LAKE — Registration is open online for the 12th annual Mount Adams Country Bicycle Tour, offering rides ranging from 11.5 to 105 miles on June 28.
The event includes an 11.5-mile family run ride in the Trout Lake valley, a 51-mile loop from Trout Lake through BZ Corner and Glenwood, a 54-mile forest loop along the flanks of Mount Adams and a 105-mile ride combining the two long loops.
The family ride costs $10, the three long rides cost $65. The routes have rest stops with water, sag wagons, repair support and emergency teams.

Free skiing on Friday at Mount Hood Skibowl
GOVERNMENT CAMP, Ore. — Skiing will be free from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at Mount Hood Skibowl with the donation of eight cans of food.
The 26th annual Ski for Sunshine event is in cooperation with the Portland Police Bureau’s Sunshine Division.
