o Volunteer Connections provides opportunities through the Human Services Council. For information on the following and other opportunities, call 360-735-3683.

Columbia River Mental Health Services is looking for volunteers with IT experience to set up new computers and networks with no supervision, committing to volunteering until the job has been completed.

School of Piano Technology for the Blind is looking for volunteers to drive technicians to appointments one day per month, using a company car, and helping the technician get situated as needed. Some paperwork is involved. Office help is needed on Mondays with phones, greeting and assisting students and customers, mail distribution, and with fundraising.

Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors is looking for volunteers to help with advising about Medicare and prescription coverage insurance, outreach and public speaking.

The Salvation Army is looking for two or three after-school assistant volunteers to ride along when picking up children from school, helping with projects, homework and play. High school seniors are welcome to apply. Volunteers are also needed to help with reading literacy, 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays.

o The city of Vancouver seeks to fill two vacancies on its Aviation Advisory Committee. The nine-member group of volunteers is appointed by the city council and is responsible for advising the city on matters related to Pearson Field and aviation issues in general. There is no city residency requirement. The committee meets at noon on the second Tuesday of each month at Vancouver City Hall. The monthly time commitment varies from two to six hours. Interested applicants may apply online at www.cityofvancouver.us/boards. The application deadline is April 18.

o The Clark County Board of Health seeks to fill a vacancy on the Mosquito Control Board. The vacancy must be filled by a resident of Commissioner District 1, which covers north Clark County, including Salmon Creek and Hazel Dell, and the cities of Ridgefield, Battle Ground, La Center, Yacolt and Amboy.

The control board establishes mosquito control policy, prepares and approves district expenditures, and contracts for services.

The board meets quarterly from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in February, May, August and November.

o County residents who live in the unincorporated area and are interested in park issues are encouraged to apply for three openings on the Clark County Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission. Clark County is forming the seven-member advisory commission.

Four county appointees to the former Vancouver-Clark Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission will serve the remainder of their terms on the new county commission. The three new appointees will serve six-year terms starting immediately. The commission will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. on the second Friday of each month.
