Regional economic development leaders on Tuesday won a state-designated “Innovation Partnership Zone” that encompasses parts of Vancouver and Camas. The zone, dubbed the “Applied Digital Technology Accelerator,” boosts the targeted areas’ ability to secure grants to help pay for high-tech programs.

The targeted areas are in Vancouver’s downtown, the waterfront and both sides of Southeast 192nd Avenue.

The zone for portions of Vancouver and Camas was one of three new ones announced Tuesday by the Washington state Department of Commerce. There are 18 IPZs statewide.

The zones are a “shining example of innovation in action statewide” to create partnerships between the public and private sectors, Gov. Jay Inslee said in a news release.

The Innovation Partnership Zones program was created in 2007 by Gov. Chris Gregoire and the Washington state Legislature. The program aims to stimulate growth of industry clusters and to build up regional economies.
