A report of a suicidal man in Vancouver’s Rose Village neighborhood brought an hourslong police response that ended with the arrest of the man, police reported early Saturday.
About 7:35 p.m. Friday, several Vancouver Police patrol officers responded to a radio call reporting a suicidal subject at a house in the 2900 block of V St.
A VPD bulletin said that officers determined that the possibly suicidal person was still alone inside the residence. They identified him as Freddie Gonzales, 32, of Vancouver.
Detectives from the VPD’s Neighborhood Response Team detectives went to the scene, as they were already investigating Gonzales for his alleged involvement in an attempted murder that occurred several days earlier in Vancouver.
Officers established a perimeter around the house and tried to make contact with Gonzales. When no one answered the door after several attempts, members of the Southwest Washington Regional SWAT team went to the scene and officers established contact with Gonzales through a negotiator.
Several hours later, when Gonzales still refused to follow officers’ instructions, SWAT team members used less-than-lethal munitions — gas and rubber projectiles — and Gonzales soon exited the residence and was taken into custody without much further incident.
Gonzales was booked into Clark County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder in the second degree.
