Oregon bass group to meet tonight
PORTLAND — The Oregon Bass and Panfish Club will meet at 7 p.m. today at the East Portland Community Center, 740 S.E 106th Ave.
Club member Bob Judkins will discuss his secrets on how to catch at least five of the 10 species eligible in the All-Species Challenge scheduled for Saturday at Gilbert River Boat Ramp on Multnomah Channel.
Help needed to clean up Yacolt Burn State Forest
CAMAS — Volunteers are invited to join the 11th annual “Pick up the Burn” event in the Yacolt Burn State Forest on Saturday.
Organized by the state Department of Natural Resources and Pistons Wild Motorsports, workers will meet at 8 a.m. at Jones Creek Off-Road-Vehicle trailhead.
General trail maintenance will be performed along with litter pick up. Volunteers need to bring gloves and drinking water. An appreciation lunch will be provided by Pistons Wild at 2 p.m.
Steelhead work group to meet Oct. 11
The Steelhead Management Work Group for the Lewis and Washougal rivers plus Salmon Creek will meet at 1 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, 2108 Grand Blvd.
The volunteers are advising the agency on steelhead management plans for the three Southwest Washington watersheds, including the location for a wild steelhead gene bank.
Skamania, Klickitat private forest land reopening to access
BINGEN — Nine timber land owners totaling about 200,000 acres in Skamania and Klickitat counties lifted their fire closures effective Wednesday.
The companies include Hancock Forest Management, Longview Timberlands, Stevenson Land Co., Broughton Lumber Co., Kreps Ranch LLC, Kreps Family LLC, Western Pacific Timber and American Forest Management.
Ken Bales, chief forester for SDS Lumber Co., said with recent rain and the forecast for cooler weather the fire danger has decreased.
The general deer hunting season in Washington opens Oct. 12.
Fee waived Saturday at Washington state parks
OLYMPIA — Entrance to state parks in Washington is free on Saturday in observance of National Public Lands Day.
A Discover Pass is not required on free days. Discover Passes cost $10 per day or $30 annually on lands managed by state parks, the state Department of Natural Resources and state Department of Fish and Wildlife.
The free day only applies at state parks, not Natural Resources or Fish and Wildlife lands.
