Vancouver high school graduates scored both goals as Concordia University defeated Carroll College 2-0 in the Cavalier Cup tournament Friday in Portland.
And they put the ball past a Camas High School graduate to do it.
Concordia senior midfielder Hannah Kimsey, a Columbia River High School graduate, tallied in the fifth minute of the game. On a cross from Hannah Scott, Kimsey scored into the top corner of the net from five yards out for the team’s quickest goal of the season.
Freshman midfielder Bobbi Eckler, a Union High School graduate, found the back of the net in the 24th minute for the Cavaliers, ranked No. 4 in NAIA women’s soccer. Eckler split two Carroll defenders for a shot from 22 yards out.
In goal for the Saints was freshman keeper Jamie Carter, a former Papermaker who made nine saves in the game. The Cavaliers outshot the Saints 29-2.
Kimsey also had a pair of assists in Concordia’s 4-0 win Sunday over Trinity Lutheran. The Cavaliers concluded their non-conference slate at 6-1-1, with all of their wins by shutout while outscoring their opponents 25-3.
Northwest Conference honors Kukula
Williamette University junior golfer Ryan Kukula was named Northwest Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for Sept. 16-22.
The Ilwaco High School graduate placed second at the Pacific Fall Invitational Saturday and Sunday at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club in Aloha, Ore., with a 36-hole score of 144. He shot 70 in the first round and 74 in the second round to finish at even par, just two strokes out of the lead, leading the Bearcats to the team title.
Bartek helps Sac State in return to Northwest
Sacramento State freshman golfer Chloe Bartek shot a three-round total of 237 to help the Hornets to seventh place in the 12-team WSU Cougar Cup tournament Sunday through Tuesday in Pullman.
The Columbia River High School graduate shot rounds of 78-83-76 on the 6,890-yard, par 71 course, finishing in a tie for 31st place overall.
