Fruit Valley — After-school programs in Fruit Valley got a boost thanks to a $10,000 community development grant from an Australian company planning to develop a potash shipping terminal at the Port of Vancouver. The BHP Billiton grant, awarded this month to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Washington, was an example of the company’s investment in the community. The resource company hopes to ship natural soil fertilizer from Vancouver, according to a press release. The money will help the Boys & Girls Clubs offer youth programs in the Fruit Valley area.
