The Cougars showed signs of getting their read-option attack going in the opening quarter, with quarterback Will Noce-Sheldon converting twice on fourth down and directing Seton on two drives into Woodland territory.
But the Cougars self-destructed at key moments (six turnovers), and without a healthy punter, they kept giving the Beavers the ball back with a short field to work. Woodland needed only 11 offensive plays in the first half to rack up five touchdowns, and coupled with three defensive scores, led 55-0 at intermission.
“We learned a lot from this game about having to be consistent and executing,” said Seton coach Dan Chase, whose team hosts Stevenson next week. “Our kids are motivated to get better.”
