High school fall athlete of the week

Riley Hein of Camas boys cross country was voted The Columbian’s high school fall athlete of the week, sponsored by Athletes Corner, for the week ending Sept. 14.

Hein collected 68 percent of the 976 votes cast by fans to beat out Spencer Tibbets of Fort Vancouver boys golf, who had 15.2 percent.

Hein, a senior, placed third overall at the season-opening Pier Park Invitational in Portland in time of 16 minutes, 1 second.

The other nominess were Shannon Boyle of Ridgefield volleyball, Madison Sorenson of Woodland girls soccer and Nicole Goecke of Prairie girls cross country.

Nominees and the online ballot are posted at www.360preps.com each Monday and voting continues until 8 p.m. Thursday.

Athletes may be elected athletes of the week once during the regular season, and no athlete can be nominated for the honor in consecutive weeks.
