Salmon Creek — Bill Allman and the other founding members of the Washington State Veterans Employee Resource Group were honored on Aug. 28 during a ceremony in Olympia. Allman, who served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and now lives in Salmon Creek, works as the veterans program manager for the Washington State Health Care Authority. He was instrumental in setting up the special group, which works to match veterans with government jobs and help them climb the employment ladder. “We want to show them that a lot of what they do can be translated into a position in state government,” Allman said in an article in Governing Magazine. He added that the veterans’ unemployment rate is more than double the general unemployment rate.
