A man robbed a U.S. Bank in the VanMall neighborhood Tuesday evening, making off with cash from the till.

The suspect entered the bank at 7003 N.E 40th St. shortly before 6 p.m., handed the teller a note and fled the bank on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, said Kim Kapp, spokeswoman for the Vancouver Police Department. He implied that he had a weapon but none was seen.

Police canvassed the area around the bank, along with nearby state Highway 500. The suspect was described as being in his late 20s and wearing a white printed jacket. After an extensive K-9 search, the suspect was not found, Kapp said.

“It’s a heavy foot traffic area, so that makes it challenging,” she said.
