Thirty-five citizenship candidates are scheduled to become United States citizens Friday at the historic Vancouver Barracks Parade Ground.
The Fort Vancouver National Historic Site will host the fourth annual citizenship ceremony at 11 a.m. in a tented area west of the bandstand, just off Evergreen Boulevard.
The event is free and the public is invited to attend.
The candidates are from 20 countries, including Ukraine, Guatemala, People’s Republic of China, Mexico, Philippines, Russia, South Korea and Nepal.
The National Park Service and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services have a partnership that encourages holding naturalization ceremonies in national parks.
Evelyn Sahli, field office director for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in Portland, will give the opening remarks, present the candidates for citizenship and administer the oath of allegiance. Elie Kassab will deliver the keynote address.
