Citizens invited to attend ‘State of the Community’ on Sept. 24

The City of Camas, Camas School District and Port of Camas-Washougal will host a joint ‘State of the Community’ event Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Camas High School Theatre, 26900 S.E. 15th St.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the event, which will include presentations from representatives of the three entities, followed by an open house where the public will have the opportunity to mingle with and ask questions of elected officials and staff.

“We will talk about all we have accomplished in the last year, and what we hope to accomplish next year,” said Camas City Councilwoman Shannon Turk, who is helping to organize the event.

Camas Mayor Scott Higgins is expected to provide an update on the Lacamas Lake Lodge and Conference Center construction process, and talk about infrastructure and business development, and the recent accomplishments of the Camas-Washougal Economic Development Association.

Camas School District Superintendent Mike Nerland will touch on topics including the results of state education assessments as well as extra-curricular activities, while the Port’s Executive Director David Ripp will speak about waterfront development and the Steigerwald Commerce Center.

Higgins said the event is a new opportunity to hear from and interact with constituents.

“We are very excited about this,” he said. “I think this is going to prove to be a good way to reach out to our citizens.”
