CENTRALIA — A state board ruling has stalled progress on two crude-by rail oil terminals proposed for Gray’s Harbor.
The Chronicle of Centralia reported Wednesday that the Washington State Shorelines Hearings Board has ruled that certain aspects of the terminals’ proposals must be corrected.
The ruling, issued Tuesday, was in response to a multi-jurisdictional suit challenging the oil terminals. A more specific report, identifying what must be corrected in the permits, will be issued later.
Westway Terminal Company and Imperium Renewables both seek to ship tens of millions of barrels of crude oil through Grays Harbor each year. The challenge was filed by The Quinault Indian Nation and a coalition of conservation groups that argued that regulatory agencies failed to adequately evaluate the risks of oil spills from trains and ships.
