Crews to relocate freeway ramp in Salmon Creek

Ongoing construction work at the junction of Interstate 5 and Interstate 205 in Salmon Creek next week will relocate a major freeway onramp, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Starting Thursday, Sept. 18, drivers accessing northbound I-5 in Salmon Creek will no longer use the existing ramp from Northeast 134th Street. Instead, they’ll use a new ramp from Northeast 139th Street. The ramp will eventually be part of a new interchange with a bridge carrying 139th Street over the freeways.

After the switch, crews will demolish the old ramp at 134th Street. Because the ramp passes over I-205, the work will require several nights of overnight closures on the freeway, according to WSDOT.

Workers will completely close both directions of I-205 at 10 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, through Friday, Sept. 27. The closures will last until 5 a.m. the following mornings. The freeway will also close from 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, to 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 29.

The entire $133 million Salmon Creek Interchange Project is expected to be completed next year.
