The possibility of record-high temperatures today has prompted the National Weather Service in Portland to issue a heat advisory including Clark County and other parts of the region.
Vancouver is expected to top out at 94 degrees, according to the weather service. The record high for Sept. 11 is 96 degrees, set in 2009. Portland’s record high for this day is 94 degrees, set the same year.
The heat advisory remains in effect from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, according to the weather service. It covers much of Southwest Washington and Oregon’s Willamette Valley. People are encouraged to take precautions if working or spending time outside. That includes drinking plenty of water, wearing light or loose clothing or staying in an air-conditioned environment if possible, according to the weather service.
Conditions will cool some Thursday, but highs in Vancouver will remain in the upper 80s through Saturday, according to the weather service. A chance of showers will return by early next week, with high temperatures dropping to the lower 70s.
