Start to fall sports season packs a punch

Two big wins on the football field are great ways to start the fall sports season, and teams from both Camas and Washougal put on quite a show under the Friday night lights.

Perhaps the biggest win of the evening came from the Papermakers, who toppled Portland’s Jesuit High School with relative ease in a game that pitted the number-one ranked teams in Oregon and Washington against one another. In the end, as the 47-14 score suggests, it was really no contest and more than 5,000 fans got to see their hometown team shine at Doc Harris Stadium.

Across town, Washougal marked it’s opening night with the official dedication of its new turf field at Fishback Stadium. The players took advantage of every moment spent on that field and left with a 35-0 victory against Hudson’s Bay.

Yes, the fall high school sports season began with a bang, and there’s much more to come and many more talented teams and players to watch. In addition to football, there’s girls soccer and boys golf, girls swimming and boys tennis, as well as cross country and volleyball.

And, as an introduction to it all, inside today’s Post-Record, readers will find the annual Fall Sports Preview. This special section provides rosters, game schedules, and interviews with players and coaches, offering a peek inside what local high school sports fans can expect from their favorite teams.

If Friday’s football games are any indication, it’s going to be quite a year for high school sports in Camas and Washougal. And hometown sports fans will get a front-row seat for it all in the print and online editions of the Post-Record.
