Local opponents of U.S. military intervention in Syria are planning a “flashlight vigil” on at 7 p.m. Monday in Esther Short Park.

Flashlights are requested because the city does not allow candles, an email announcing the event said.

The event, which is intended to be a vigil rather than a rally, is planned at the park’s clock tower.

Participants may register for the event at http://civic.moveon.org/event/syriavigil/139700, but organizers said registration is not required to attend.
