Talking Points: Ravens sent on road by lightly attended O’s game

Remember when the reason why the defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens had to open the new NFL season on the road was because the Orioles had a home game scheduled for Thursday night and it would have been just too much of a hassle because M&T Bank Stadium and Camden Yards share a parking lot?

Yeah, well, did you happen to check the box score for Thursday’s Orioles game? Attendance was 17,383 in a ballpark that seats 45,971. It seems as if the parking thing would have worked out.

Not that the Broncos minded.

The thing that always seemed odd about the Portland Trail Blazers’ promotion giving fans a coupon for a free certain item at a certain ubiquitous fast food chain if the team scored 100 points in a home game was that this happened even if the Blazers reached triple digits and lost.

In any event, the chants of “Cha-lu-pa!” ringing in the Rose Garden for the last 14 seasons have now gone, well, the way of the term “Rose Garden.”

Taco Bell has ended the promotion. No more free food for Blazers fans.

Those who want to support a cool cause can head out to Doc Harris Stadium today to cheer on Camas assistant football coach Dale Rule as he takes a walk.

Rule and others started the Everyone Walk event about a half-hour after Camas’ win over Jesuit on Friday night, and they plan on being there for 24 hours.

When reporter Paul Valencia left the stadium, Rule had walked two miles.

“Ninety-eight to go,” Rule said.

Yep, he is trying for 100 miles this year in an event that raises money for local charities.
