The Evergreen Plainsmen rolled up 500 yards of offense in a season-opening 56-20 win over Fort Vancouver on Friday at Kiggins Bowl.

Justin Straup ran for 140 yards, 109 of them and four touchdowns in the first half as Evergreen quickly took command.

The Plainsmen scored four touchdowns in the first quarter. They recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff and led 8-0 just 1:02 into the game on a 10-yard Straup scoring run that capped a four-play, 25-yard possession.

Rey Green scored on an 18-yard run on the second Evergreen possession, and Robert Akil scored from 5 yards out after another Fort fumble making it 23-0 just 5:23 into the game.

Fort Vancouver dressed only 24 players, and the Trappers produced three touchdowns. The first of those covered 78 yards as quarterback Jordan Suell found Marquis Taylor behind the defense midway through the first quarter.

But Straup scored three more rushing touchdowns before halftime, including runs covering 22 and 20 yards as the Plainsmen built a 49-14 halftime lead.

Rey Green finished with 179 yards rushing on seven carries, including a 57-yard touchdown. Green also caught three passes for 48 yards.
