Weather Eye: This could turn into a thunderous, soaking-wet day

Finally something to talk about in the weather department, so grab a cup and let us chat.

After an outstanding display of nature’s forces the other night, another round of nocturnal thunderstorms was in the mix for last night. There is also a risk of scattered thunderstorms today, as well. I was up until 1:30 a.m. early Tuesday watching the brilliant light display. Unless you have ear plugs in, it probably woke you up along with most everyone else.

Today will be a cloudy and soaking-wet day, depending on where the heaviest band of showers ends up. Rainfall amounts could top 1 inch, maybe 2 inches, under the heaviest showers, and 2 to 4 inches over the foothills and Cascades in Washington. Local frogs are preparing for those frog stranglers that are sure to pop up today.

Other areas will receive lighter amounts, but forecast models indicate enough rainfall to forget about watering for a few days. Colder air aloft will move inland as the pesky low finally moves eastward over the weekend. Once again, snow could fall on the highest peaks in the Cascades.

Finished yet? There is more.

The National Weather Service had numerous watches or warnings out for the Pacific Northwest that included Flash Flood Watches for areas north of Cowlitz County.

Don’t think that summer is over, because computer models insist next week will be quite warm — maybe 90 degrees.

Meanwhile, enjoy the brief autumn interlude. Glad my gutters are cleaned out.
