The Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Oregon and Southwest Washington is celebrating National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month with activities in September.

Ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women and is the deadliest of all the gynecologic cancers. According to the American Cancer Society, more than 22,000 women in the U.S. are expected to be diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2013 and more than 14,000 will die from it.

The local alliance has a couple events lined up to promote ovarian cancer awareness.

The Morrison Bridge in Portland will be dressed in teal lights — the official color of ovarian cancer awareness — on Sept. 19. Also on Sept. 19, from 5 to 8:30 p.m., the alliance will host “O-Vary Funny! A Stand-up Night for Ovarian Cancer,” at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel, 1000 N.E. Multnomah St. in Portland.

The stand-up comedy show will feature three comedians: Susan Rice, Pam Matteson and Tara Rolstad. Tickets cost $50 and are available online, www.ovariancancerosw.org.
