If you’ve got used youth sports equipment you’re looking to give away and other youth sports equipment you need, consider visiting the first-ever Clark County Equipment Exchange at the Marshall Community Center, 1009 E. McLoughlin Blvd., on Saturday.
That’s where Ridgefield sports mom Julia Ross will set up from 4 to 6 p.m. Ross is the mastermind behind the equipment exchange, which aims to save families money and get used but usable sports equipment into the hands of kids who need it.
There are a few guidelines. You must live in Clark County and provide demographic information at check-in. The child who needs the equipment must be present. The exchange isn’t a free giveaway but a one-to-one item exchange; in order to get something, you must give something of an equivalent value (but not necessarily from the same sport). The rules allow one exchange per child. If the exchange doesn’t have the item you’re looking for, you can sign up for a wait list.
“We have a lot of soccer equipment and some baseball equipment,” Ross said. “We are looking to stock up for our next exchange event, so youth basketball equipment, wrestling shoes and lacrosse equipment would be great, but all youth sports equipment is appreciated.”
