Vancouver police are watching for missing persons reports in hopes of identifying the man who presumably drowned in the Columbia River on Sunday.
Police collected a few things on the banks of the river as evidence, but say that none of the items positively identify the person, said Sgt. Kathy McNicholas.
Divers scoured the waters on Sunday night after a man described as being in his 20s was seen swimming in the river near the Red Lion Hotel Vancouver at the Quay but then didn’t resurface. People close by said the man seemed fine before going under, Clark County sheriff’s Deputy Todd Baker said.
The Southwest Washington Organization of Rescue Divers, the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office and the Vancouver Fire Department also helped with the search.
Clark County marine patrol deputies searched the Columbia River shoreline for about three hours Monday, but the search was not successful.
