Shine shines with book about Vancouver Barracks

Hudson’s Bay — Greg Shine, the chief ranger and historian at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, has been honored as the National Park Service’s Pacific Northwest 2013 Freeman Tilden Award winner. The award recognizes creative, effective work on an educational or interpretive project. Shine, who is also an adjunct instructor at Portland State University, was chosen for his guidance of the digital book “Revealing Our Past: A History of Nineteenth Century Vancouver Barracks through 25 Objects.” “This is a first in the national park system, a project that reflects the cutting edge of creativity and originality,” the Park Service’s Regional Director Christine Lehnertz said.
