Esther Short — The late Darin Thorp’s greatest love, aside from his children, was soccer. “Thorp was passionate in his commitment to ensuring that every child be provided the opportunity to play the game, often using his own money to pay fees for a child whose family could not afford it,” according to a statement from the Parks Foundation of Clark County. Now, Thorp’s friends and fans have started a private charitable foundation, the Darin Thorp Play It Forward Foundation, and pulled together a $3,000 donation for soccer scholarships for low-income children at Vancouver-Clark Parks and Recreation. Thorp died in a car crash early this year at age 42.
