Fruit Valley — The woman who steered teetering nonprofit housing agency Affordable Community Environments back from the brink, and led the way to a merger with Portland housing agency REACH, has been honored as a Friend of Housing by the Washington State Housing Finance Commission. Leah Greenwood “put the housing needs of her community and ACE’s mission over personal or organizational self-interest,” commission Chairwoman Karen Miller said. Greenwood went from executive director at ACE to a housing development manager for REACH. “Her guidance through ACE’s merger with REACH Community Development is an example of true leadership,” Miller added. Greenwood, one of five Friends of Housing named statewide, received her award at a housing conference in late October in Spokane.
