For several years now, a cleaning lady from rural Clark County has been the driving force behind a huge charitable exchange of stuff.

“Sharing Is Caring” was the brainchild of Donna Aho back in 2009. The event quickly grew to take over the basement of the Hockinson Apostolic Lutheran Church on a semiannual basis, with folks welcome to donate and to take away gently used clothing and household items, all for free.

“These items are for families’ use only, not for resale,” said Aho. “In these tough economic times, we all need to look out for and help one another.” Aho added that it takes hundreds of volunteer hours, most before the event, to stage the exchange. The ninth “Sharing Is Caring” event is set for 5-9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at the Hockinson Apostolic Lutheran Church, 16108 N.E. 192nd Ave., Brush Prairie.

If you have clothing, shoes, household items, home decorations, books and toys to donate — or if you have volunteer time — contact Aho at donna@sharingiscaringevent.com or 360-600-4037. Or visit http://www.sharingiscaringevent.com.
