A La Center man accused of shooting his son during an altercation Sunday told emergency dispatchers that he planned to kill his adult kids and himself.
Barry D. Breimon Sr., 65, appeared Monday in Clark County Superior Court on suspicion of first-degree attempted murder. He is set to be arraigned on the charge Nov. 8.
Judge Scott Collier held him on $250,000 bail. The defendant plans to hire an attorney.
Breimon and his two sons, Barry Breimon Jr., 48, and Kevin Breimon, started arguing Sunday after an evening of drinking alcohol at the defendant’s house, 38011 N.E. 109th Ave., according to a probable cause affidavit filed in court. Kevin Breimon was leaving the house toward an exterior building when he heard a gunshot, the affidavit says. He told police that he went back inside the house and saw his father holding a pistol and his brother bleeding on the ground. He said his father threatened to also shoot him. He ran away and hid nearby, the affidavit says.
Breimon Jr. was transported via helicopter to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his left hip and right buttocks. He was listed in critical condition Monday in the hospital’s intensive care unit.
