This week marks the end of the regular season of the fall sports season as volleyball, girls soccer and football teams end their scheduled campaigns.
So let’s take a look at the races.
Volleyball
4A GSHL: Camas (7-1), Union (6-2), Battle Ground (5-3) and Skyview (5-3) will advance to next week’s district tournament. This week will sort out the seeding. Battle Ground has the toughest road with matches against Skyview and Camas. Union meets Skyview on Thursday in the other key match of the week.
3A GSHL: Less drama here. Columbia River (8-0) has clinched the No. 1 seed, and Prairie (7-2) is No. 2 and Mountain View (5-4) is No. 3. It would take major upsets for Kelso not to finish fourth.
2A GSHL: Ridgefield (6-0) and R.A. Long (5-1) figure to play for the league title on Thursday in Ridgefield. Mark Morris (4-3) is the likely No. 3 team to district.
1A TRICO: The top three teams from each division will play off Thursday and Saturday at Woodland for the five berths to the district tournament.
Division winners Kalama and La Center are assured district berths, while King’s Way Christian, Seton Catholic, Woodland and Castle Rock play off for the remaining spots.
Girls soccer
4A GSHL: Union (7-1), Camas (6-1-1), Skyview (5-2-1) and Battle Ground (4-4) have clinched district playoff berths.
Union plays at Camas on Thursday in a game that could decide the league title. It could be that the two teams will end up playing again on Saturday as the Nos. 1 and 2 teams will inexplicably play for bi-district seeding — because a 10-game league schedule apparently isn’t the best way to determine playoff seeding. The Nos. 3 and 4 teams also will play Saturday for the third berth to the bi-district playoffs.
3A GSHL: Columbia River (8-0) clinched the league title with a win over Kelso on Friday. Kelso, Mountain View and Prairie open the week tied at 5-3. Kelso plays at Prairie on Tuesday. Kelso then plays at Mountain View on Thursday, while Prairie faces Columbia River.
That makes Tuesday’s game a must-win for Prairie if the Falcons hope to improve their standing.
2A GSHL: Ridgefield (7-0) clinched the league title on Saturday. Hockinson (4-3) will secure the No. 2 seed with a win against Washougal on Tuesday, earning the tiebreaker over Mark Morris (5-3). Hockinson will head to district, win or lose on Tuesday.
1A TRICO: Woodland (15-0) is the No. 1 seed to district, and White Salmon (12-2) is No. 2. The battle for the other two district berths is tight between Castle Rock (8-6), Seton Catholic (7-7), Toledo-Winlock (7-8) and La Center (6-8). Seton Catholic plays at Castle Rock on Tuesday, then Castle Rock plays at Toledo-Winlock on Thursday.
Football
Columbia River will face Mountain View at 5 p.m. Friday at Kiggins Bowl for the 3A GSHL title. Woodland plays at La Center on Friday for the Trico League title. Union-Skyview, Prairie-Kelso and Hockinson-Washougal also have playoff ramifications.
