Portland’s Chase De Leo scored two goals and Oliver Bjorkstrand had three assists as the Portland Winterhawks won their seventh consecutive game, defeating the Kootenay Ice 6-3 in Western Hockey League action Friday at Cranbrook, B.C.
De Leo scored both his goals in the first period after Nic Petan scored one minute into the game, and the Winterhawks enjoyed a 3-0 advantage.
Kootenay got within one 3:52 into the third on a goal by Austin Vetterl to cut the lead to 3-2. Portland responded minutes later with two goals in a span of 31 seconds, first on a power play goal from Derrick Pouliot, then the first of the season from defenseman Josh Hanson as the Hawks took a 5-2 lead.
Oliver Bjorkstrand three assists for Portland.
The Hawks conclude their five-game road trip Saturday in Spokane when they take on the Chiefs.
