Portland — Wells Fargo on Wednesday gave layoff notices to 17 workers at a Northeast Portland mortgage processing center, bringing to 92 the number of workers who have been laid off at the center in recent months.

The most recent laid-off workers will lose their jobs beginning in December, said Alfredo Padilla, a spokesman for Wells Fargo’s consumer lending operations. He said the San Francisco-based bank is working to find other positions for those employees. The center is at 9600 N.E. Cascades Parkway.

“This reduction is being driven by an increase in interest rates (which has caused a big drop in refinancing), and the site remains open with 278 team members,” Padilla said in an email to The Columbian.

Nationally, Wells Fargo laid off 2.300 employees from its mortgage department employees in August and another 1,800 in September.
