Talking Points: One man’s opinion

What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

1

On a night when the Ducks made headlines with pink headgear, Oregon defensive coordinator Nick Aliotti provided his own unique color by expressing his displeasure with WSU coach Mike Leach. Leach left his starters in to score TDs in garbage time of another one-sided Ducks win.

Aliotti has apologized.

Fine. But we’re still confused about Aliotti’s anger.

It seems to us that Aliotti’s young Oregon players were gaining valuable experience against first-string Cougs, while all Leach did was risk injuries to key players for meaningless points.

Much has already been made about Sunday night’s Manning vs. Luck game at Indianapolis.

Wrote Peter King in his Monday Morning Quarterback on SI.com:

So, for Luck, what happened Sunday night wasn’t going to fit into our neat idea of a sportswriting narrative, no matter what happened. As (tight end and former Stanford teammate Coby) Fleener said: “There was no end of a movie here tonight. We won. We’re happy. But it wasn’t our Super Bowl.

“It’s not going to define our season or anything like that.”

It might be interesting to note that of all the so-called experts out there who took a stab at projecting the World Series participants way back in April, none of them got it right.

PunditTracker.com blog looked up 63 experts from the various media outlets (ESPN, Fox, CBS, Yahoo, Sports Illustrated, etc.) who had made baseball picks.

Not only did ZERO of the 63 “experts” have a Red Sox-Cardinals World Series, but no one even took one of those teams to make the Fall Classic.

When it comes to baseball, it can truly be a crapshoot.
