Bob Rector will be inducted into the Clark County United States Bowling Congress Hall of Fame during the organization’s annual banquet on Sunday. The event starts at 2 p.m. at the 40 et 8 Bingo Parlor, 7607 N.E. 26th Ave., in Vancouver.
Bob Rector is being recognized for superior service to bowling in Clark County.
Tickets cost $23 and can be reserved by contacting the Clark County USBC at 360-694-6348. The office at 2109 E. Evergreen Blvd. is open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.
In addition to honoring Rector, the event will recognize outstanding league bowling from the 2012-13 season.
• Mixed tournament — The 2013 Clark County USBC Mixed Championships tournament will be played in November at Tiger Bowl in Battle Ground. The tournament features doubles and four-person team competition. Each doubles entry must have a man and a woman. Each team must have two men and two women.
Tournament bowling is scheduled for 1 and 4 p.m. on Nov. 16 and Nov. 23, and at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Nov. 17 and Nov. 24. The entry fee is $25 per event.This is the 42nd year that a mixed tournament has been held. To enter or to learn more, contact the Clark County USBC at 360-694-6348.
High school hockey season begins
Alex Stoneham of Union High School scored one of the goals for Team Gaustad in Sunday’s 5-2 loss to Team South in a Winterhawks Varsity Hockey League match.
The high school hockey league organized by the Portland Winterhawks includes four teams. Its games are played at Winterhawks Skating Center in Beaverton.
Nine players on Team Gaustad are from Southwest Washington: Jeffrey Anderson (Union), Justin Bernstein (Columbia River), Alex Kaspar (Mountain View), August Komlofski (Heritage), Austin Martin (Hockinson), Ashley Pham (Skyview), Jimmy Scott (Union), Matt Latshaw (Kelso) and Stoneham.Team Gaustad (0-2) will play its next game at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 27.
Youth hockey clinic slated for Nov. 2
Boys and girls ages 4-9 can participate in a free ice hockey clinic from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. on Nov. 2 at Mountain View Ice Arena in Vancouver. The clinic is designed to introduce new players to the sport, according to Mountain View Ice Arena general manager Bob Knoerl.
The Vancouver Youth Hockey Association is organizing the clinic, which is one of more than 500 such clinics nationwide being put on by USA Hockey and the National Hockey League.
“To help keep costs reasonable for parents, we’ve incorporated programs to provide first-year players with equipment for the season,” Knoerl said. Firstenberg adds time for basketball, pickleball
Vancouver-Clark Parks and Recreation has added drop-in sessions for basketball and for pickleball at the Firstenburg Community Center.
A 40-and-older basketball drop-in session has been added at 5:30-7 p.m. on Wednesdays. Additionally, there is an adult 25-and-older drop-in basketball session from 7:30-9 p.m. Wednesdays.
Pickleball drop-in early times now run 6 to 9 a.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 6-10 a.m. on Wednesday.
Afternoon pickleball runs 12:30-2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
